Description

My adoption try for TR Pearls Are For Girls who is owned by *Timber-Ridge.
I have loved this guy ever since I first saw him in Timber's gallery, but I was very scared to actually draw him until I started on these lines a few days ago. School and schedules forced me to to set the sketch aside for a few days, but today I was able to sit down and really focus on it. The end result is some of the best lines I have ever drawn before and one of the most absolutely gorgeous horses I have ever had the pleasure of drawing. Petey's face... I just cannot express how much love I have for those eyes and that silly mustache. He's so gorgeous. Absolutely magnificent. One of the most beautiful designs I have ever seen before. If Grand Finale is successful in obtaining such a wonderful creature, Riki better watch out, cause Petey is definitely prepared to steal the spotlight!

Story

Timber Ridge's downsizing came as bitter-sweet news to Annie Vincent or Grand Finale. After a long day of doing nothing much besides barn chores, Annie sat down at her laptop and browsed through her email. She had at least 30 unread messages, most of which were spam or junk mail. She methodically selected these messages and trashed them. The inbox read "Empty" as she stood up and headed for the shower, but barely had she taken two steps away from the computer when the familiar *ding* of her email system sounded. She turned back around and bent over to glance at the email. Reading the subject line and the sender's name, she quickly opened the email and then sat down again at the table. Annie's blue eyes darted back and forth across the bright screen as she read the news from Timber Ridge about their herd dispersal and downsizing. Reaching the end of the email, Annie scanned the list of names of the horses Timber Ridge was keeping. She frowned and re-read the list twice. A third time and a fourth time before she was convinced he wasn't present. Annie clicked the link at the bottom of the email that lead to the Timber Ridge website. She went straight to the "Stallions" page and gasped as she read the font under the name of her favorite stallion: "For Sale."

Annie fumbled with her phone as she tried to get to her contacts and scroll down to Clarke's name. She tapped the screen and waited impatiently as the phone dialed slowly. The casual speed of the ring was almost comical in comparison to the impatient, excitement of Annie. When Clarke finally answered the phone, Annie didn't even have a chance to open her mouth before he spoke.
"Petey, right?" he asked.
"Did you see?" Annie questioned almost breathlessly.
"Yeah, I did. And I suppose you want to drop everything and get out to the Timber Ridge and talk to them?" Clarke guessed.
"Absolutely!" she replied eagerly.
"Good. Me too," the man chuckled. "I'll call them right now."
"Perfect, I'm going to go and pack for the trip," Annie said quickly.
"Hold your horses, girlie. He may already be sold. Just let me give them a call," Clarke laughed.
"You do that," Annie replied. "I'm still gonna go pack."

Clarke hung up with Annie and then called Timber Ridge. He explained which horse he was interested in. Learning that the stallion was still available, Clarke asked if they could come out and see him. With approval from the stable, Clarke hung up and called Annie back. She was already completely packed and ready to leave that minute.
"Pack already, Clarke! I'll go and hook the trailer up to the truck," Annie urged. Clarke was just as excited as Annie, but managed to contain it a little bit better.
"I'm going to pack right this very minute," he laughed. "I'll meet you at the truck in 30 minutes. I have to call the Camerons."
"It's gonna take you 30 minutes to do that?!" Annie teased as she headed towards the barn with her bag slung over her shoulder.
"Okay, 15 minutes. But I need both hands, so I'm going to hang up on you now," he replied, as she began tossing pants and shirts onto his bed.
"Whatever will help you to hurry up," Annie laughed, hanging up on Clarke.

15 minutes later Clarke jogged towards the driveway where he could hear the familiar rumble of the truck's engine. Annie honked at him as he came into sight. He tossed his bag into the narrow back seat of the truck, and then climbed into the cab beside Annie who insisted on driving.
"What'd the Camerons say?" she asked as they pulled out of the driveway and headed for the highway.
"They aren't too keen on the idea of another horse. If this is going to happen, it's gonna be on you and me," Clarke replied slowly. Annie's face clouded, and she frowned.
"Is this something you really want to do? Is he worth it?" Clarke asked.
"Of course he is," Annie replied without hesitation. "But I don't know if it's possible..." She trailed off as her frown softened in thought.
"Between the two of us, it's gonna have to be," Clarke insisted.

24 hours and one cheap motel later, Clarke and Annie drove down the driveway at Timber Ridge. Annie quickly parked the truck and trailer in the designated area, and then practically threw herself out of the truck as she headed towards the office. Clarke jogged to keep up with her.
"Slow down there, missy," he chuckled. "Petey isn't going anywhere."
"Well... hopefully home with us," Annie replied eagerly as she paused in front of the office door. Clarke grinned at the excitement in her eyes. He pulled open the door for Annie and motioned her inside.

It was only a matter of minutes before Annie and Clarke were strolling across the gorgeous property owned by Timber Ridge, headed towards one of their pastures. Anne McBeth lead the way, further explaining why Timber Ridge was downsizing. She paused as they approached the fence of a pasture and leaned against it. Annie and Clarke joined her at the fence and looked out at the magnificent pintaloosa who grazed casually with his back to them.

Anne whistled loudly, and the stallion jolted to attention, lifting his head and staring back at the fence where the three stood quietly. He whinnied loudly as he rolled his head in the air and burst forward into a casual gallop. Annie's heart caught in her throat as the stallion's bright blue eyes caught the early morning sunlight. Petey slid to a stop at the fence, his well muscled chest pressing up against the boards as he hung his head over the top. His lips searched Anne and Annie for treats before he glanced sideways and Clarke and snorted loudly. Clarke rubbed the stallion's glossy neck as Anne explained that he had been out of work for a while, and was a little bit more hyper than normal. As if to prove her point, Petey swung his head around to check Anne out again and inadvertently smacked Annie across the top of her head with his muzzle.
"Ouch!" Annie muttered, rubbing the top of her head as she peered at the stallion. Petey shoved his nose into Annie face and breathed on her loudly as if to apologize for his clumsiness. Annie chuckled and stroked his white face, looking into his icy blue eyes. Petey relaxed and sighed, blinking slowly and feeling the cool fingers of the woman on his cheeks. As Clarke witnessed Annie and the stallion, he could see the potential the two had as a team. He laughed as Annie planted a kiss on Petey's nose, and he jerked back, snorting indignantly. This was definitely a relationship he wanted to see develop. Clarke turned to Anne, smiling eagerly.
"What is Timber Ridge asking for Petey?"
